Osmo End Grain Sealing Wax protects the exposed cut ends of decking, siding, soffits and other exterior boards. Sealing these highly absorbent areas reduces water uptake, checking and splitting while helping the wood move more evenly through wet and dry weather.
At a glance
- Coverage: Approximately 54 sq ft of end grain per liter, per coat
- Estimated yield: Up to about 600 decking boards treated on both ends per liter, depending on dimensions and absorption
- Coats: 2 applications
- Drying time: Approximately 4 hours
- Application temperature: 41–95°F
- Apply with: Osmo Soft Tip or Flat Brush
- Color: 5735 Clear
How to apply
The cut ends must be clean, dry, frost-free and free of anything that would block absorption. Stir the wax and brush it generously onto the end grain. On very absorbent cuts, apply the second treatment wet-on-wet. Otherwise, let the first coat dry for about four hours and apply the second. Wipe accidental wax from the board faces with a clean, lint-free cloth before it dries.
Maintenance
Check exposed ends when maintaining the surrounding exterior finish. Reapply sealing wax wherever the end grain looks dry or no longer repels water.
Good to know
This is for cut ends, not for coating the full face of a deck board. Test first and coordinate it with the chosen Osmo exterior finish so the board faces and ends are both protected.
